Pride

Pride Edinburgh takes place this Saturday. But did you know that the first Scottish Pride took place in 1995? You can find out more about the history of Pride and see some items from Pride 95 in the Proud City exhibition at the People’s Story Museum.Images for Exhibition LGBTThe first ever Pride march was held in New York on 28th July 1970, to commemorate the first anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising which had galvanised LGBTQIA+ rights campaigners. Pride quickly spread around the world as a protest against discrimination and harassment faced by LGBTQIA+ people, and a celebration of the community’s strength and resistance.

Here are some other Pride badges from our collections.

About edinburghmuseumsoutreach

I'm the Outreach & Access Manager at Edinburgh Museums & Galleries (the museums service of the City of Edinburgh Council). I take the museums out to community groups and schools. I really enjoy meeting lots of people of different ages and backgrounds and helping them connect with our collections. I love showing people some of the amazing objects that we hold and I like helping them to remember the past or to create something amazing.
