I thought I would share a few images of some of my favourite items on display in the Proud City exhibition (there are many more). The exhibition is on at the People’s Story Museum until 26 February 2017.
This photograph was taken to advertise the ‘Love Equally’ march, to students at the University of Edinburgh. Over a thousand people marched to parliament on February 14th 2012, campaigning for the introduction of same-sex marriage in Scotland.

This photograph shows the first religious same sex marriage in Scotland. The couple married at the Quaker Meeting House, Edinburgh in 2015.

This image shows: T-shirt, music stand, music and flag from the Edinburgh Gay Men’s Chorus, a National Bisexual Conference T-shirt and a Pride flag.
The flag was bought for the owner’s first Pride march almost 7 years ago. It has since been to many marches, rallies and protests with the LGBT community in Edinburgh, the stick even snapped at the most recent one!
In 1977 Gay News and its editor Denis Lemon were found guilty of blasphemous libel for publishing the poem ‘The Love That Dares To Speak Its Name’ by James Kirkup. The case had been brought by campaigner Mary Whitehouse (featured on this badge).
Photograph by Geoff Gardner. This cake topper was given as a humorous gift for a Civil Partnership, as the couple did not want to have a traditional ceremony.
