Have you ever wondered what happens to our collections when they are not on display?

We sometimes loan collections to other museums and galleries. This oil painting ‘Les Joueurs’ by Mary Cameron is one of three currently on loan from the City Art Centre to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art for their new exhibition ‘Modern Scottish Women: Painters and Sculptors 1885-1965’.

When not on display, many of our collections are stored at the Museums Collection Centre. This amazing treasure trove is open to the public by tour on first Tuesday of the month at 2pm. You can phone 0131 556 9536 to book.

This fantastic home-made dolls’ house from the Museum of Childhood is one of my favourite objects at the Museums Collections Centre.

About edinburghmuseumsoutreach

I'm the Outreach & Access Manager at Edinburgh Museums & Galleries (the museums service of the City of Edinburgh Council). I take the museums out to community groups and schools. I really enjoy meeting lots of people of different ages and backgrounds and helping them connect with our collections. I love showing people some of the amazing objects that we hold and I like helping them to remember the past or to create something amazing.
