It was very exciting to be able to go to London with some of the Museums Alive volunteers to receive a Marsh Trust award for Volunteers for Museum Learning.
When I set up the project, jointly with Health and Social Care’s Volunteer Development Team and Older Peoples’ Services in 2011, it was designed to enable older people in care homes, day centres and supported housing in Edinburgh to participate in reminiscence and object handling sessions. The project has been ongoing since then and each week the volunteers visit venues across the city to share museum collections.
This year (up until 1 Nov) the volunteers have given 266.5 hours of their time and they have led 27 sessions averaging 9 participants per session.
So thank you to all the volunteers for all their hard work and thank you to Health and Social Care for working with us!
