Museums Alive volunteers win Marsh Trust awards for Volunteers for Museum Learning, regional award for Scotland

The Marsh Trust awards for Volunteers in Museum Education recognises best practice and the innovative ways in which volunteers work in museums and galleries to engage the public with collections. The Museums Alive volunteers have been awarded the regional award for Scotland. The volunteers were invited to a special ceremony at the British Museum in November 2014.

Jointly run by Edinburgh Museums & Galleries outreach service and the City of Edinburgh Council’s Health and Social Care department, Museums Alive brings museum collections, stories, conversation and entertainment to older people, many of whom are unable to visit our venues due to mobility issues, dementia, visual impairments or hearing loss. Every week our team of outreach volunteers visit care homes, day centres and supported housing where they participate in reminiscence and object handling sessions.

About edinburghmuseumsoutreach

I'm the Outreach & Access Manager at Edinburgh Museums & Galleries (the museums service of the City of Edinburgh Council). I take the museums out to community groups and schools. I really enjoy meeting lots of people of different ages and backgrounds and helping them connect with our collections. I love showing people some of the amazing objects that we hold and I like helping them to remember the past or to create something amazing.
