Can you help us develop our handling collections?

One of the key parts of the outreach programme are the loan and reminiscence boxes. These are used in outreach workshops with a range of groups. These can include reminiscence sessions in care homes and workshops in schools and with young people’s groups. I am currently looking for some new objects to be used for handling and wondered if anyone out there had items they would like to donate?

In particular I am looking for the following:
• Old toys and games
• Sports items related to Edinburgh (old sports programmes, photographs, memorabilia)
• Items related to cinemas in Edinburgh/ film stars from the 1930s-70s (e.g. posters, magazines, photographs)
• Items related to music from the 1930s-70s (vinyl, photos, posters, magazines)
• 1950s, 1960s and 1970s items in general
• Items related to dance halls in Edinburgh
• Items related to shops and cafes in Edinburgh from the 1930s-70s

Please note, the items need to be reasonably small and transportable and in good condition. They also should not have any sharp edges or other parts that people could hurt themselves on.

If you have anything you think could be of use, please contact me: 0131529 6365 or diana.morton@edinburgh.gov.uk

Thank you for your help!

About edinburghmuseumsoutreach

I'm the Outreach & Access Manager at Edinburgh Museums & Galleries (the museums service of the City of Edinburgh Council). I take the museums out to community groups and schools. I really enjoy meeting lots of people of different ages and backgrounds and helping them connect with our collections. I love showing people some of the amazing objects that we hold and I like helping them to remember the past or to create something amazing.
