Endings and Beginnings

This morning I put away the last few items displayed in Citizen Curator. I would like to say thank you to all those who contributed, especially Duncan Bremner and those who volunteered. It has been an amazing project to work on.  However, this is not the end, I am hoping to work on a project in Newhaven with Citizen Curator and to set up some outreach exhibitions in Leith based on the City Art Centre exhibition. I will keep you updated.

Despite the exhibition de-installation I did get out on Tuesday  to visit the Museum Studies students at the University of St Andrews to run a workshop. I chatted a bit about the work I do and asked them to plan their own outreach project using some handling objects I had taken with me. The Victorian bloomers were definitely a big hit!

The final Museums Alive session also took place at Oaklands Care Home and I ran a session on the history of the Firth of Forth for Saheliya, a group for BME women in Leith.

Also, some exciting news, a new Heritage and Outreach Assistant joined the team in January! Russell is now working with us and on the Assembly Rooms Heritage Project. Here he is trying on hats at a Museums Alive session.

We also now have new volunteering pages on our website  where you can find out more about volunteering with us.

About edinburghmuseumsoutreach

I'm the Outreach & Access Manager at Edinburgh Museums & Galleries (the museums service of the City of Edinburgh Council). I take the museums out to community groups and schools. I really enjoy meeting lots of people of different ages and backgrounds and helping them connect with our collections. I love showing people some of the amazing objects that we hold and I like helping them to remember the past or to create something amazing.
