New volunteers needed for Museums Alive outreach project

Museums Alive is currently recruiting enthusiastic volunteers to participate in outreach activities with older people throughout Edinburgh.

Museums Alive is a joint project, run by Edinburgh Museums & Galleries and Health & Social Care, which brings museum collections to people in care homes and day centres. Our volunteers lead group activities, reminiscence sessions and discussions with older people, using museum objects and photographs to spark memories and conversations.

Museums Alive has had a hugely positive impact on participants, staff and volunteers alike. It is a fantastic opportunity to…
– Meet some amazing people
– Hear incredible true stories
– Gain some excellent experience
– Improve your confidence and personal skills
– Give something back to the community
– Brighten up peoples’ days
– Learn about museum collections, local history, people & culture

Our volunteers play a central role in the planning and development of our group activities. Full training is given and travel expenses will be provided.

Museums Alive meets every week on Wednesday afternoons. An ongoing regular commitment of 6 months is required of all volunteers.

About edinburghmuseumsoutreach

I'm the Outreach & Access Manager at Edinburgh Museums & Galleries (the museums service of the City of Edinburgh Council). I take the museums out to community groups and schools. I really enjoy meeting lots of people of different ages and backgrounds and helping them connect with our collections. I love showing people some of the amazing objects that we hold and I like helping them to remember the past or to create something amazing.
