Monsters and memories!

The holidays are here for the Edinburgh schools. So I’ve been working with Duncan Bremner (a local artist) to run some workshops in Leith Library for the Citizen Curator project. On Tuesday we looked at images of festivals and galas in Leith from the past. Then we started making carnival figures out of papier-mâché, making rather creepy figures out of collage and making some lovely bunting! The fun will continue on Thursday so please do drop by 2-4 if you are 7+ and fancy having a go.

Here is a photo of the creepy examples that Duncan made, more photos to come after Thursday.

We will also be running sports themed arts activities next Tuesday and Thursday 2-4 at Leith Library, so please drop by if you can’t make this week.

Last Thursday I went to visit the Dove Centre in Wester Hailes for a reminiscence session. We talked for ages about seaside holidays, pocket money, camping, the Guides and lots of other topics. Normally sessions last about an hour, but after an hour and a half we were still going and only stopped because everyone needed a cup of tea before going home!

Does anyone out there remember having a “tinny” mug?

Also last Friday was our final Hidden Histories session. The groups accompanied Russell Clegg (our Adult Education Tutor) to Trinity Apse for a special behind the scenes viewing with Joan. You can find out more about the Apse on our website. Then they came back to the City Art Centre for object handling and discussion. It was lovely to catch up with them again.

About edinburghmuseumsoutreach

I'm the Outreach & Access Manager at Edinburgh Museums & Galleries (the museums service of the City of Edinburgh Council). I take the museums out to community groups and schools. I really enjoy meeting lots of people of different ages and backgrounds and helping them connect with our collections. I love showing people some of the amazing objects that we hold and I like helping them to remember the past or to create something amazing.
