The last couple of weeks have seen quite a few new exciting things happening. Last Wednesday we started a new block of Museums Alive sessions at Drumbrae Day Centre. Starting off with a topic of special occasions, we looked at weddings, royal weddings and births and birthdays. Some of our volunteers even brought some lovely things from their own houses to compliment the museum collections, including bridesmaid dresses, kilts, coronation tins and photographs. The project is going to continue tomorrow with the topics of sports, hobbies and street games.
On Thursday I went to visit Victoria Primary in Newhaven (where the Wee Museum of Newhaven is based- see picture below) to discuss updating the museum again this year. Some of you may also have seen the lovely article on a similar project, the Dalmeny Primary Museum, in the Queensferry Gazette on Friday 25 January 2013. We got a double page spread which is great news!
After visiting Victoria Primary I went along to a really interesting event, one of the Insights and Ideas Cafes arranged by Creative Scotland and Museums Galleries Scotland. This event explored how the arts can work with criminal justice providers. There were some really fascinating and inspiring ideas shared. You can find out more about these events on the Creative Scotland website.
On Friday the Hidden Histories course continued and visited the City Art Centre. I managed to nip along to meet some of the participants to say hello, it was great to meet everyone!
