All along the Firth of Forth

I am just back from a visit out to Edinburgh College for the final session with their ‘Campaigning for Change’ social history course. We spent a lot of time discussing the histories of the areas along the Firth of Forth coast such as Newhaven, Leith, Portobello and South Queensferry.

I took out some objects and photographs. This is a docker’s hook:

I even conviced a couple of students to dress as fishwives- photographs hopefully to follow! In the mean time I thought I’d post a photograph of a Newhaven fishwife from our collections.

About edinburghmuseumsoutreach

I'm the Outreach & Access Manager at Edinburgh Museums & Galleries (the museums service of the City of Edinburgh Council). I take the museums out to community groups and schools. I really enjoy meeting lots of people of different ages and backgrounds and helping them connect with our collections. I love showing people some of the amazing objects that we hold and I like helping them to remember the past or to create something amazing.
