Political debates with Edinburgh College and Museums Alive

It has been a busy couple of days. Yesterday Edinburgh College came back to visit the Museum Collections Centre with another group of students. We spent quite a bit of time looking at our World War I collections and talked about women’s suffrage, protests in Edinburgh, LGBT campaigns, migration, the campaign for Scottish independance and politics in general- with some really interesting debates!

This tin from World War I is one of the items we looked at:

Yesterday afternoon I ran training for our newest Museums Alive volunteers with Alexis from Health and Social Care and Erin, one of our current volunteers who had agreed to help.

We also planned a special Festive Museums Alive session for Portlee Resource Centre next week. We are going to take out objects relating to pantomines, Christmas, presents, winter and football for the participants to discuss.

About edinburghmuseumsoutreach

I'm the Outreach & Access Manager at Edinburgh Museums & Galleries (the museums service of the City of Edinburgh Council). I take the museums out to community groups and schools. I really enjoy meeting lots of people of different ages and backgrounds and helping them connect with our collections. I love showing people some of the amazing objects that we hold and I like helping them to remember the past or to create something amazing.
