Edinburgh College visit to the Museum Collections Centre

This morning I was at the Museum Collections Centre for a visit from Edinburgh College (formerly Jewel and Esk College).  If you haven’t been to the Museums Collections Centre, it is an amazing place! It is a store where we keep the collections not on display in our other venues.

The visit was part of the ‘Campaigning for Change: Social Change in Scotland 1900-1979’ course. We looked at some of the women’s suffrage collections, the campaign for a Scottish Parliament, other local protests, the LGBT collections, Leith and Newhaven collections (looking at shipbuilding, fishermen and fishwives) and all the other great collections on display there.

If you would like to visit for yourself, you can join one of the public tours. You can find out more at: http://www.edinburghmuseums.org.uk/Venues/Museum-Collections-Centre.aspx

To give you a taster I’ve added some photographs of previous community visits to the Museum Collections Centre to this post.

About edinburghmuseumsoutreach

I'm the Outreach & Access Manager at Edinburgh Museums & Galleries (the museums service of the City of Edinburgh Council). I take the museums out to community groups and schools. I really enjoy meeting lots of people of different ages and backgrounds and helping them connect with our collections. I love showing people some of the amazing objects that we hold and I like helping them to remember the past or to create something amazing.
